Key Duties and Clinical Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence & Diagnostic Imagery

  • – Execute a comprehensive array of sophisticated nuclear medicine imaging procedures and diverse clinical duties in absolute alignment with the professional code of conduct and rigorous local departmental guidelines.
  • – Ensure that all clinical, diagnostic, and academic research imaging investigations are systematically undertaken in a remarkably efficient, safe, and timely manner.
  • – Maintain a superlative standard of compassionate patient care, safety, and physical comfort immediately before, during, and following the completion of every complex imaging procedure.
  • – Utilise detailed clinical histories and existing patient data to meticulously evaluate diagnostic requirements and to communicate complex medical procedures effectively and reassuringly to patients.
  • – Attain proficient venous access to confidently take responsibility for drawing, measuring, and safely injecting radiotracers into patients, strictly adhering to designated local rules under the expert guidance of the ARSAC License Holder.
  • – Following the successful attendance and completion of a recognised training program, safely administer required procedure injections for specialized PET-CT and Nuclear Medicine examinations in accordance with standard departmental policy.
  • – Exercise absolute compliance with all local radiation protection rules and overarching statutory IR(ME)R regulations.
  • – Demonstrate exceptional operational flexibility by working dynamically in rotation with other senior diagnostic colleagues to meet varying service demands.
  • – Act individually with a high degree of autonomy, as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team, to continuously improve all aspects of this research-focussed and patient-centric imaging service.

Educational & Professional Mentorship

  • – Actively participate in the clinical training, onboarding, and day-to-day supervision of junior healthcare staff, including university students and temporary placements within the imaging department.
  • – Successfully attend, engage with, and master any advanced training courses or clinical certifications mutually agreed upon by your line manager.
  • – Maintain flawless alignment with all local, departmental, and overarching Trust educational schemes and staff training policies.

Managerial, Quality Control, and Data Integrity

  • – Serve as the designated expert in advanced post-processing methodologies and scientific data handling techniques in strict compliance with local diagnostic procedures.
  • – Maintain highly precise, detailed, and completely accurate records of patient data, radiation protection protocols, and health and safety metrics.
  • – Safeguard the complete integrity of the digital data security infrastructure, ensuring total compliance with the Data Protection Act and relevant local information governance rules.
  • – Rigorously oversee and ensure staff radiation safety by meticulously controlling the access of personnel into designated radiation areas.
  • – Ensure the mandatory wearing of appropriate personal dose meters and assume responsibility for immediately reporting any physical defects discovered in imaging equipment or radiation monitors.
  • – Foster exemplary lines of written, digital, and interpersonal communication with all sub-groups of healthcare staff, clinicians, and academic researchers utilizing the nuclear medicine facilities.
  • – Routinely perform and record meticulous quality control checks on all relevant department hardware, instantly escalating any operational problems or malfunctions directly to the Lead Nuclear Medicine/PET-CT Technologist or Radiographer.
  • – Efficiently report clinical accidents, minor incidents, and formal patient complaints by following established Trust governance protocols and local procedures.
  • – Maintain a deep awareness of, and total compliance with, Health and Safety executive mandates, Radiation Protection measures, Department of Environment & Transport guidelines, Local Rules, and clinical Risk Management Procedures.
  • – Proactively take part in clinical research initiatives, departmental audits, and the formal presentation of scientific findings to peers.
  • – Collaboratively implement innovative structural changes in conjunction with the Lead Technologist/Radiographer to dynamically improve current imaging practices.
  • – Actively participate in the forward planning, service development, and strategic meetings of the imaging department.

Person Specification and Assessment Criteria

Qualifications & Professional Registrations

  •   — A formal BSc (Hons) in Clinical Technology, or an equivalent globally recognised qualification.
  •   — A valid, current professional registration with either the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) or the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT).
  • – Desirable
  •   — A DCR (R) or a dedicated BSc in Diagnostic Radiography.
  •   — An advanced, postgraduate qualification specifically in CT or Nuclear Medicine (such as a PgCert, PgDip, or full MSc).
  •   — A formally recognised certificate of competency in Venesection and cannulation.
  •   — Evidence of further relevant postgraduate academic study.

Clinical Experience

  • – Essential: Demonstrable professional experience in successfully delivering a comprehensive Nuclear Medicine or PET-CT diagnostic service.

  •   — Substantial operational CT clinical experience.
