Consultant (GZW017)
Evolve Staffing Ltd is proud to represent a modern, expanding NHS Hospital currently investing heavily in its respiratory infrastructure, which is based in Hereford. We are seeking a motivated Consultant Respiratory Physician to join a highly capable team of six consultants. This role is perfect for a specialist looking to develop a forward-thinking service in sub-specialties such as Bronchiectasis, TB, and NTM, though other interests are highly welcomed.
The department is evolving with a dedicated new-build ward block, electronic patient record systems, and a Lung Cancer screening program set to launch in 2026.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- – Specialist Care: Provide high-quality Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine services using evidence-based guidelines.
- – Sub-Specialty Development: Lead and expand services in Bronchiectasis, TB, and NTM, or pursue other sub-specialty interests clinically or through research.
- – Ward Management: Oversee a dedicated Specialist Respiratory Ward featuring a NIV area and procedure room.
- – Clinical Procedures: Opportunity to perform and develop services in Bronchoscopy, EBUS, Medical Thoracoscopy, and Cryo-biopsy.
- – Multidisciplinary Leadership: Collaborate with specialist nurses, prescribing physiotherapists, and a full oncology/radiology MDT.
- – Teaching & Training: Contribute to medical education for junior staff and students from the local medical school.
- – Modernized On-Call: Support 7-day working with no Acute Medicine ward round commitment. Weekend work is limited to a 5-hour Saturday/Sunday morning ward round on a 1:6 rota.
Essential Criteria
- – GMC Status: Full GMC registration with a license to practise and inclusion on the Specialist Register in Respiratory Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR at the time of interview).
- – Qualifications: MRCP or an equivalent recognized postgraduate qualification.
- – Clinical Expertise: Proven skills and up-to-date experience in Acute Medicine and the ability to offer expert clinical opinions on both emergency and elective respiratory problems.
- – Governance: Evidence of participation in Audit and Clinical Governance programs with a working knowledge of evidence-based practice.
- – Personal Skills: Excellent communication skills, the ability to work under stress, and a caring, honest, and reliable professional attitude.
Desirable Attributes
- – Academic Achievement: Additional degrees, diplomas, or a postgraduate thesis relevant to Respiratory Medicine.
- – Educational Background: Formal training in teaching skills or a Certificate of Education.
- – Specialized Experience: Experience in a specialist interest that complements the existing department or experience working in a community setting.
- – Life Support: Current ALS certificate or equivalent.
- – Research: A history of original research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
