Consultant (GZW015)
Evolve Staffing Ltd is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Consultant Haematologist to join a high-performing department in the Herefordshire area. This is a dual-focus role involving both clinical and laboratory duties, offering the opportunity to manage a diverse patient load while taking a leadership role in your specific area of interest.
You will join a collaborative team consisting of three other Consultant Haematologists and one Associate Specialist, supported by an advanced nursing team and a robust secretarial infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- – Deliver hands-on clinical care, sharing responsibility for all haematology patients within the service.
- – Participate in and attend joint Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
- – Act as a Principal Investigator (PI) for clinical trials and participate in the Trust’s research infrastructure.
- – Lead in a specific area of interest, including representation on Trust committees and oversight of audit and education in that domain.
- – Develop and implement working policies in liaison with GPs, fellow consultants, and nurse practitioners.
- – Provide high-level teaching and training for medical students, doctors in training, and nursing staff.
- – Engage in clinical audit activities and ensure full compliance with clinical governance and patient safety standards.
- – Undertake managerial duties associated with patient care and the strategic development of the Haematology Department.
Clinical Environment & Support
- – Multidisciplinary Team: Supported by a Lead Nurse, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and Specialist Nurses who manage chemotherapy clinics, venesection, and bone marrow examinations.
- – Infrastructure: Shared office space with dedicated computer access, microscope, and a laptop supplied for clinical systems access.
- – Administrative Support: Full support from an experienced Clinical Haematology secretarial team.
- – Mentorship: All newly appointed consultants are provided with a dedicated mentor to ensure a smooth transition into the Trust.
- – Professional Development: Access to study leave funding and a supportive environment for maintaining CPD and revalidation.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- – Full and Specialist GMC Registration with a current licence to practise (or eligibility within 6 months of interview).
- – Holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within 6 months of award (for UK-trained applicants).
- – FRCPath and MRCP or equivalent qualifications.
- – Desirable: Higher degree such as an MD or PhD.
Experience & Knowledge
- – Proven experience as both a clinical and laboratory haematologist.
- – Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a broad range of emergency and elective haematological problems.
- – Ability to take full, independent responsibility for patient clinical care.
- – Broad-based knowledge across all aspects of general haematology.
Skills & Attributes

- – Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and patients.
- – Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance clinical and managerial responsibilities.
