Non Medical Prescriber (GZW022)
Evolve Staffing Ltd is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Band 7 Non Medical Prescriber (NMP) to join the prison healthcare team at Hull. This is a pivotal role within one of the UK’s most prominent local prisons, requiring a clinician who can balance high-level clinical decision-making with the unique security requirements of a custodial setting.
As an NMP in this environment, you will be at the forefront of patient safety, particularly during the critical first hours of custody.
Key Responsibilities
- – Reception Clinical Screening: Lead the intake prescribing process, conducting comprehensive clinical assessments for new arrivals coming from the courts or other facilities.
- – Acute Prescribing: Initiate and manage prescriptions for substance misuse (e.g., opiate substitute treatments) and “bridging” medications for chronic or acute conditions to ensure patient stability on their first – night.
- – Nurse-Led Clinics: Run advanced clinics for long-term condition management and minor ailments, utilizing your independent prescribing rights to streamline patient care.
- – Emergency & Crisis Management: Act as a senior clinical lead during medical emergencies, providing expert guidance and immediate pharmacological intervention if necessary.
- – Multidisciplinary Leadership: Work as a core member of the Integrated Healthcare Team, collaborating with GPs, Mental Health practitioners, and Prison Officers to ensure a holistic approach to resident care.
- – Audit & Compliance: Ensure all prescribing practices meet NMC/GPhC standards and adhere to the secure environment’s formulary and CQC guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
- – Professional Registration: Valid NMC (Nurse) or GPhC (Pharmacist) registration.
- – Prescribing Qualification: Must hold a recognized V300 Independent Prescribing qualification.
- – Experience: Proven experience prescribing within a prison reception environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with substance misuse protocols and custodial health trends is essential.
- – Security Clearance: Current prison clearance (HMPPS/NOMS) is required for an immediate start.
- – Clinical Skills: Advanced clinical assessment skills and the ability to make autonomous, safe prescribing decisions under pressure.
- – Compliance: Must have the right to work in the UK and hold a valid Enhanced DBS check.
